PEOPLE HELPING PEOPLE

With People Helping People (PHP), your spare change can help to make a tremendous difference in the lives of fellow members who need assistance because of circumstances outside of their control. Help us to help others by participating in our PHP program.

By signing up, your electric bill is ‘rounded up’ to the next highest whole dollar amount. For instance, if your actual electric bill is $83.87, it will be rounded up to $84. The additional 13 cents provides monetary assistance for worthy members facing hardship.

10 Easy Ways to Save on Your Electric Bill

  1. Set a high usage alert for your account to notify you when you’re using more energy than usual.
  2. Keep your thermostat as close as you can to 78°F in warmer months and 68°F in colder months. Set the thermostat even higher or lower when you’re away from your home.
  3. Replace air filters monthly.
  4. Set your water heater to 120°F and use low-flow faucets and showerheads.
  5. Wash clothes in cold water and clean the dryer lint filter regularly to keep your dryer running efficiently.
  6. Skip the heated dry setting on the dishwasher.
  7. Only wash dishes and clothes when you have a full load.
  8. Cut down on air leaks in your home by sealing up window and door cracks with weather stripping or caulk. Add insulation to help keep in cooled or heated air, as well.
  9. Use energy-efficient LED lightbulbs and turn off lights, electronics, and appliances when not in use. Make it even easier by installing a power strip that will turn off multiple items at once.
  10. Close your blinds and curtains to keep out the sun during summer and keep them open during winter to bring in warm rays.
